John Gibbons studied at Queens` College, Cambridge, the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music. Equally at home conducting in the opera pit or concert hall, John has over 50 opera productions to his credit. These include many acclaimed shows for Opera Holland Park as well as the Spier Festival, Cape Town and Opera Theatre Company, Ireland.

Concert work includes the Romanian premiere of Walton’s First Symphony with the Georges Enescu Philharmonic, Rakhmaninov with the Macedonian Philharmonic and numerous concerts with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra including the inaugural Classic FM ‘Hall of Fame’ concert and the launch concert of ‘Digital Classics Television’. His Royal Festival Hall debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra was followed by a CD of Skalkottas and Joseph James with the Philharmonia Orchestra. In 2004 John made his debut with both the City of Birmingham and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestras and recorded the Joseph James Piano Concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. In 2008 he prepared a new performing version of Walton’s opera Troilus and Cressida which received its premiere with Opera Theatre St Louis to much critical acclaim.

John and his wife Rowena ran the highly successful 2005 nationwide tour of ‘Requiem’ by Karl Jenkins in conjunction with EMI Classics and Classic FM.  A new tour takes place in autumn 2008 with Karl conducting his new ‘Stabat Mater’ in eight venues around England including St Bartholomew’s, Brighton, Winchester Cathedral and Guildford Cathedral.
