Enchantment
Programme includes:
Beethoven: Violin Concerto in D major
Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 3 in
A major “Scottish”
Rubbra: A Tribute
Nicola Benedetti - violin
Worthing Symphony Orchestra
Conductor: John Gibbons
It is a great pleasure for us to welcome Nicola Benedetti to Worthing with one of the masterpieces of the Classical era. We also pay homage to Mendelssohn in his 200th anniversary year with one of the works inspired by his extensive travels around these islands. The concert also includes a short piece composed by Edmund Rubbra in tribute to Vaughan Williams on the occasion of his seventieth birthday. It is a warm sonorous piece in the fine tradition of English symphonic composers who are gradually being rediscovered by audiences after decades of neglect.
Nicola Benedetti - In August 2002, Nicola won the UK's Brilliant Prodigy Competition, broadcast by Carlton Television. At the age of 16, she won the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition in May 2004, performing Karol Szymanowski's First Violin Concerto. Nicola has played in concerts and recitals in major venues all over the world since her debut
