Effervescence

Programme includes:
Smetana: Overture ‘The Bartered Bride’
Brahms: Piano Concerto No. 2 in B flat
Dvorak: Symphony No. 8 in G major

Ian Fountain - piano
Worthing Symphony Orchestra
Conductor: John Gibbons

Two effervescent Czech works frame one of the grandest of all piano concertos, famed for its mixture of serenity and power. It also includes memorable melodies for solo cello and horn. Dvorak’s most ebullient and sunny symphony sounds the season off in triumphant style.

In 1989 Ian Fountain became the youngest winner of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition in Tel Aviv at the age of 19. He began playing the piano at the age of five and he was a chorister at New College, Oxford. He continued his studies at Winchester College and at the Royal Northern College of Music. Ian has performed extensively throughout the world, with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Hallé, English Chamber Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Since 2001 Ian Fountain has been a piano professor at the Royal Academy of Music.
