Continuing with the theme of music featured in classic movies, the Alassio Concert Orchestra under the baton of Marcus Martin - who also features as solo pianist in two items in this programme - devote this entire concert to some of the most popular and varied classical and specifically composed music which has featured in seventy years of film making.
Although the 1967 Swedish film Elvira Madigan is largely remembered on account of the use of the Andante movement from Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21, Walt Disney’s 1940 film Fantasia innovatively featured eight complete classical music excerpts and won two Academy awards, whilst Patrick Doyle's 1995 score for Sense and Sensibility was nominated for ‘Best Original Dramatic Score’.
