Worthing Youth Prom

West Sussex County Youth Orchestra * Conductor John Gibbons
Classic film music excerpt – Henry V (1943)

Walton ..........Suite from Henry V
Beethoven ..........Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major
Brahms ..........Symphony No. 1 in C minor

Laurence Olivier always maintained the Battle of Agincourt would never have worked on film if it had not been for William Walton’s stirring music with its astonishing skill at conveying the French army’s gathering speed as they head toward the English longbows. Two cornerstones of the classical tradition introduce the talented youth of West Sussex to the subtle delights of Beethoven’s masterly Fourth Piano Concerto. Brahms’s First Symphony is considered by many to continue the symphonic tradition of Beethoven with its heroic battles ending in resounding triumph.

Anthony Hewitt has established a reputation as a pianist of formidable interpretative and technical ability. Recent concerto performances include the RPO in London, National Symphony Orchestra
and Princeton Symphony in the USA, as well as the Northern Chamber Orchestra and Worthing Symphony Orchestra in the UK.

He has given four recitals at the Wigmore Hall, appeared across the USA including at the Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, toured South America and Japan and performed chamber music at high-profile festivals in Europe including Bastad in Sweden, Orpheus and Bacchus and Sanary in France and Mecklenburg in Germany.  Duo partners have included Emma Johnson, Martin Roscoe, Sarah-Jane Bradley, Chloe Hanslip and Thomas Carroll.

His recording of the Liszt and Reubke piano sonatas has been met with much critical acclaim including International Record Review which described it as "magisterial".
